Directors Note:

In 2003, a young woman from Olympia, Washington named Rachel Corrie was killed by an Israeli bulldozer as she tried to protect a Palestinian home from demolition. Her journey—full of hope and conviction—led her to stand against the destruction of lives, homes, and dignity. Her words, drawn from her journals and emails, bring us into the heart of a conflict that continues to displace and fracture lives today.

Rachel’s voice is complex—at times poetic, angry, hopeful, and always searching for truth. This is a story about a young woman navigating a world of injustice, asking us to see through her eyes, to feel what she witnessed, and to wrestle with the hard questions she left behind: How far are we willing to go for justice? What does it mean to witness suffering? And how can we remain human in the face of dehumanization?

This play isn’t easy. It forces us to confront the human cost of conflict. Today, in 2024, the violence Rachel stood against is still a reality, as seen in the recent death of AyÅŸenur Ezgi Eygi. The horrors in Gaza and the West Bank are not over.

The United Nations has documented thousands of violations by the Israeli army, and Israel remains on the UN’s “List of Shame” for abuses against children in war. These are facts. Critiquing the policies of a government is not an attack on its people or my faith. Too often, the misuse of antisemitism silences necessary criticism of power and injustice.

Tonight, we present Rachel’s truth—a truth that demands to be heard. As long as these stories remain untold, the struggle for justice continues. Thank you for being here and listening.
